So yesterday we looked back at the achievements and challenges that took us through the last decade.
Today is all about looking forward and designing what comes next.
Without a doubt my biggest lesson of the last decade was around the power I have over my own destiny which is why I love checking I am on course each new year.
Remember, you really can make it happen!
But before I give you the questions there is a saying…I believe from Bill Gates that sums up perfectly what we learnt yesterday and that I want you to take forward today.
“People overestimate what can be done in one year, and underestimate what can be done in ten.
We always overestimate the change that will occur in the short term and underestimate the change that will occur in the long term”
So let’s think about the year and decade ahead…
What’s next for me?
Think of the main groups …Health, Finances, Relationships, Career or Business, Soul.
Where would I like to be at the turn of the next decade?
List exactly how you would like life don’t hold back – remember this is where it is easy to UNDERestimate what you can achieve.
Also, this needs to be written in the PRESENT tense, as though it is New year 2030 and this is what you have achieved.
So, use sentences staring with I have, I am, we are.
What do I need to put in place to make this happen?
Maybe you need to retrain, or re locate?
Maybe you need to have certain conversations?
Are there things you need to let go of?
Thoughts, relationships, expectations.
What limiting beliefs come up when you think about achieving this perfect future?
I’ll never be able to, I’m too old, too fat, it’s too hard, no one will take me seriously etc.
Are they true?
The answer to this 99.9% of the time is no, because often we are projecting into the future and no one knows that.
And if it is true, then what do you need to do about it?
Next we will break your goal down in to bite sized chunks, ask yourself…
Where do I need to be in five years to get there?
Where in 3 years?
Where by the end of 2020?
What needs to be my focus for the next 3 months in order to be where I want to be in 1,3,5 & 10 years time?
OK, so that’s a lot of writing today!
Want to cut it down a bit?
Answer these 3 …
What’s next for me?
Where do I want to be in 10 years time?
What do I need to do next to get there?
